Last Wednesday night, representatives from four of the six New England states sat around a table for dinner and discussed logistics for the tournament. The two states that were unable to attend had their representatives indicate already that they too are on board.
There will be six qualifying tournaments (one for each state) where wrestlers will compete in set weight classes at which they will qualify to compete in the New England Tournament. In the initial year, each state will be granted three qualifiers at each weight. These qualifiers will be entered into the 18-man New England Tournament bracket where there will be two pigtails per bracket to determine entry into the tournament.
Sites, dates, contacts, weigh-in times, and registration information for each of the qualifying tournaments will be available within the next week or two. Qualifying tournaments will take place in February for MA, CT, RI, and NH. We are waiting to hear back from ME and VT about the dates for their qualifying tournaments. We will continue to provide information in an organized manner as details are finalized. We are looking forward to a great first year and anticipate a phenomenal showcase of talent will be present at our first ever New England Youth Championship Tournament.
