Here's a link to a good story on Robert Hamlin, a wrestler from Vermont who finished second in the NCAA Championships (Division 1, the real deal) at 184 pounds for Lehigh: intermatwrestle.com/articles/9115 The story notes that while he was a three-time New England schoolboy champ (2x160, 1x 171) he was basically getting clobbered in the wrestling room at Lehigh, a perrenial national power, and had to work to get better. While not in the article, note that in summer tournaments before college he split two matches with Cory Peltier, formerly of RI and Blair Academy. I hope you can appreciate how remarkable it is for someone from New England to have this level of success on the national stage just halfway through his collegiate career, and know that hard work can take you as far as you are willing to go.

It is a great story, and he has a legitimate chance of winning it all this season. That weight class has a muddled picture of who is the best. Wright won it last year, but that certainly didn't look likely most of the season. He was on fire for the last month of the season. Others, like Gambrall, Bosak, Steinhaus, Leblanc, and Perry seem like serious title contenders too. Unlike 125 (McDonough), 133 (Oliver), and other weights where there is a clear favorite, 184 is up for grabs. Speaking of Peltier, he is ranked 19th in the country at this weight! However, he has dropped to 174 but lost the wrestle-offs! So, does anyone have any word on whether Peltier, a defending ACC champion in his senior year, will even be in the starting lineup or not?
