After several weeks of mostly cancelled tournaments, particularly in RI, there were several noteworthy mid-season tournies that went off on Jan. 15. I'll list them all here for convenience.
First up is the annual Cumberland tournament, the John D. Gorman Memorial. As in the past it had some top notch talent both in state and from southern New England. Hope was the top RI team in third place, a little ahead of Cumberland and behind Connecticut power Simsbury (ranked No. 3 in the State Open classification) and nearby North Attleboro. Half of the champs came from out of state teams, though RI champs were Ryan Conlan, LaSalle, by medical forfeit over Jared Hood at 106; Zachary Henault, Lincoln at 113; William Leischner, Ponaganset at 120; Edmir Monteiro, Hope at 132, in OT over NP's Cody Bryant; Hope's Isael Perez at 160; Hayk Grigorian of LaSalle over Hope's Imanol Tavares at 182; and Zachary Raymond of NP at 195. Other noteworthy finals were Simsbury NE place-winner Evan Linder of New Milford over Nicholas Torres of Hope at 126, and Connecticut #1 John Mairano of Simsbury over Hope's Maurice Cooper at 145.

Griswold (CT) Mid-Season Invitational. A great showing by RI teams with Chariho winning and Barrington second, followed by Windham, Ct and host Griswold. SK was sixth. Lots of RI champs with Ryan Currier (138), Brady Anderson (152) and Corbin Maraia (195) winning for Chariho; Kevin Robinson (106) and Aaron Lundsten (182) for Barrington; Benjamin White (120) and Gavin Rodman (132) for South Kingstown. Lundsten beat Logan Reiner 8-3 in the finals. Floarena link below:

And last but not least was the Woburn (MA) Invitational Tournament. There were no RI teams entered but the tourney was won by Mass. #1 and Lowell Tournament champs Saint John's Prep, who dominated a strong Massachusetts field by more than 100 points and with seven champions. Yep, that's half. Take note of these names, many of which will be prominent in the Massachusetts State Open and the New Englands. Link from Floarena below:
