I would like to say congrats to all the wrestlers but especially the seniors that went out on top (Altieri, D'Alosio, Travers, both Labrie's, Dupre, Gallagher, Dziadkiewics, Neff, and Sauer). I thought there was so many compelling finals stories.
106: Cardosa rebounds from last years finals lost and caps it off with a title this year. Congrats on being able to move to a new school with a different coaching staff and being able to adjust well. Celico should be proud as he was a huge help in BH winning the title, and is part of a very impressive wrestling brothers.
113: Celico capped off a dream season by winning an individual title and a another team title. Bloom was very impressive and is only a freshman. He will have a great career, and seems a little undersized in the weight class which also is impressive.
120: What can you say about Alteiri. 4x champ after missing practically the whole season with an injury. He has to beat a state finalist and then a state champion to accomplish it. Absolutely remarkable!!! Davol needs to get his due. I heard that he could have made 113 and probable would have won it (no disrespect to Celico was intended) but pushed himself to take on Altieri. He deserves alot of credit because most guys would have taken the easier road.
126: D'Alosio is crazy good. Perfect season and a 2x champ. Can't get much better then that. Soto should be proud that he is only a sophomore, bulked up (which many thought would hurt him) and almost pulled off the biggest upset of the tournament. This did deserve the best finals match.
132: Howard really deserved this. After the weight cut problem (I have heard so many versions, don't know what is really true about it) and then a heart breaker last year against a champion, seeing his domination was very nice. Caparco missed most of the season with an injury. Came back to beat Lourenco the D1 number 1 seed and is a stud himself, then wins a crazy good triple OT match, looks good in the semis. Now what he did to Howard was awful, but I heard that he apologized. I hope this doesn't take away from the great tournament that he had. People make mistakes. Just look at my spelling.
138: O'Connell won two crazy close matches and accomplished what people expected from him as a freshman. Nice to see the embrace with his brother (another champion). Tedesco went out as a good. I am sure that he wished that he could have won it all but he should be proud of how great he wrestled. This was a great weight class.
145: Travers went out on top as a senior. What is better? This is arguable the best weight class. Travers had to beat a state champion to get to the finals and another stud in the finals. Noury should also be proud. I don't know if this is a touchy subject (which I truly apologize if it is). The fact that he could be a wrestler with scoliosis is very impressive, but to be a finalist is remarkable. Congrats to him. He was one of my favorite wrestlers
152/160: I put these together because I didn't want to separate the twins. It has been a pleasure watching these guys. 3x champs and a new england champ (hopefully 2x). But what I am even more impressed is how humble these guys are. They were raised right. These 2 are 2 of the best ri wrestlers ever. Congrats to Stewart and Borsey for going after them. So many people get out of their weight class because of the challenge. Congrats to these 2 for embrassing the challenege and going for it. They should be proud.
170: Dupre goes out as a champion in a crazy stacked weight class. The 6th place kid is a 3x state place finisher. That is a good weight class. Dupre wins against Sauro is the semi finals (in the best match of the entire tournament, in my opinion) then revenges the questionable loss to Hayes in Vermont. Hayes is also a senior and should be proud. He went to the finals in a stacked weight class and seemed to handle the loss with much class. Both guys should be proud.
182: Gallagher repeated which is no easy task. Many guys get lazy after winning the states and pay the price for it. I heard Gallagher just went harder. Congrats on a great career. Boesch is a 2x finalist, and a 2x team champion. Very impressive. He should be proud.
195: Dziadkiewicz, undefeated season as a senior, beating a kid that beat him the year before. Not to mention that he dominated all the matches. Congrats. Conte missed most of the season and still had enough in the tank to make the finals. Congrats to him on an great semi finals comeback.
220: Neff just wins. He is 220 but moves like he is 120. He could have been voted OW and I expected a great showing from him. Fenwick is a finalist as a freshman and looks like he could be 195 or smaller. He will have a great career.
285: Sauer goes out as a champion. He showed tons of heart to be able to secure the win in a great battle. He also looks like he could wrestle at 220. As somebody else pointed out, Sousa doesn't get enough credit. He was so close to winning a title and should be proud.
Thanks to all the wrestlers, coaches, and officials for a great season and a great tournament. Congrats to BH on another title. Go team RI at New Englands. I will be there rooting for you.
