220 of bh beating tolman was surprising. As was Sousa over Robey (who I had ranked first). No upset in the finals in my opinion

Robey broke his left wrist over 3 weeks ago and against medical advice continued wrestling because it was his senior year. Practically wrestling with one arm, he finished the season undefeated, won sectionals and placed 3rd at states losing 1 match by the score of 1-0. That's incredible, not an upset!

Not enough people gave Sousa credit. The Kidd had one loss this year....to Webb. He hasbeen ssolid all season. I like his chances at NE to place.

That is very impressive by Robey. He won a close match against Hebert in the quarterfinals and then lost a close on to Sousa. Why was he not there to get his medal?

If I had to guess, it was probably a combination of pain, frustration and the realization that it was time to finally get that broken wrist casted. I hope he finds a way to get that medal because it's truly something to be proud of.

I am sure that he didn't intend to it be, but it seems disrespectful for him to not be there. Sauer won the title and deserves the picture of all 6 guys on the podium. Now I have never heard anything negative about Robey, so I am sure it was unintended

You are absolutely correct on all your points. I'm sure it wasn't intentional but it was disrespectful to Sauer and the others.

I did not know that Teves didn't show up. I hope it was just a lack of maturity being he is a freshman. Taking 5th as a freshman is nothing to be ashamed of. He is really good and I am excited to see how his career pans out

I usually never post on this forum but I do love all the discussions about our sport and the wrestlers in RI. I'd like to touch upon this Teves discussion and him not showing up for his medal and getting on the podium. I have to say that I like him not showing up a little bit. Hear me out! Not showing up for his medal will be criticized by many. I see it as a dedicated athlete who fell short of his goal and was extremely disappointed. This shows that he cares a lot.At no point did he display poor sportsmanship during the tournament or become disruptive like so many do after a loss. I also know for a fact he did not mean any disrespect for any of the 106 State Placefinishers by not showing up.For anyone that has ever put on a pair of wrestling shoes and a singlet and got out on a mat knows how hard it is to compete. People like Teves who has dedicated his life to this sport knows how bad it feels to fall short of your goal. Oh and have I mentioned that he is only a freshman. We participate as onlookers for one of the most emotional and gut wrenching sports there is. I'm sure that Teves wasn't thinking about what the consequence was for not showing up to get his medal. I'm sure that he just wanted to get out of the building. Believe me I know the feeling. I commend him for not showing his true feelings to what so many people would love to gossip about . I also commend him for continuing to wrestle with a broken heart after his semi finals loss. That shows you what kind of a person he truly is. I've come to know Teves over the past couple of years and can tell you that he is one of the most respectful and good hearted kids I know. I can also tell you that he is one of the most well knowledged and well rounded wrestlers that competed this weekend. I know that we need to teach our young athletes respect, discipline and good sportsmanship. I believe Teves has all of these atributes. I think he had a freshman moment and made a bad decision during an emotional state. ( who hasn't?) I say instead of criticizing him, we let him prove how great of a person he is as well as how good of a wrestler he is. I predict Teves will come back stronger than ever and prove to all he Is just that! STONG thanks for listening

I think Teves' behavior is typical of many Freshman who have had success in youth and middle school wrestling. I think it is even more difficult going to a school like Moses Brown that didn't see top competition. How many tough matches did he and Bloom have during the dual meet season? They breezed through D2 states like they did in middle school too.
I also think everyone wants to be the next Giblin, Meyers, Altieri, etc. and you only get one shot at it. If you lose as a freshman that goal is gone forever.

He didn't punch celico, he clubbed the back if his to hard, a call I saw at least 4 other times just in matches I was mat side for. A call I seeall the time during the year. Please don't exaggerate the call.

Please don't exaggerate the call. I agree. It was an over aggressive power half attempt not a punch at all. You see it called at every big tournament.

Wrestlers have their moments, but wrestling is a sport that teaches humility as well, while dreams and hearts may get broken in one match, it's no excuse to go and receive an award you earned. Those were some heavy forearms to the back of the head, that was frustration coming out, not a hard power half. But even the best have moments, I'm pretty sure Meyers as a freshman didn't make it back to the podium for pictures when losing in the NE finals, he was a great wrestler and a good kid, who has a moment.

Ricciutti from EWG placing 3rd at 113 was rather surprising to me, he came to wrestle!

I still do not agree, in my opinion talking 5th place as a freshman is a great accomplishment in itself and one should not be ashamed of that. It's just not the right thing to do. I believe it's disrespectful towards not only oneself, but the school you represent, you're coaches and to the respected state champion and state place finishers in the given weight class. I'm not knocking Teves by any means he's a tough kid who's a D2 State Champ and has had several big wins this season, but after losing a close semis match to Celico and then losing to Williams, before beating Diaz in a very tough day of wrestling, he should have been proud and at least paid the respect to Colin Cardosa of having a full podium of all place finishers. That is all. Respect is a very key part of life and an integral part of our sport, so he should have accepted his award in front of the whole state and used it as motivation for next season.
