2 days away, I've had a great week so far rolling w/ some of you guys at BH practice. Coach Meyers has run great practice sessions, and everyone in that room has been busting their @$$'$ off. No matter your seed or your opponent leave it all on the mat. We saw plenty of upsets at states last weekend, you will see more this weekend. Over look no one, fear no one, Go Team RI

Anyone have any predictions this weekend? Who has a chance to win their weight class? What team(s) have the best chance of doing well? This should be a great weekend of wrestling!

I'll take a shot. BTW, you can find the brackets on Trackwrestling.com
106- tough draw for Davol, but they're always tough at this weight since Mass. usually brings 6 guys who are ALL capable of placing. Unfortunately, Davol's first match is likely against Defronzo, who was top rated in Mass. and NE most of the season and beat Kelly of Framingham 3x before losing in the Mass. All States (Kelly beat Celico 8-0 in an early season tourney when Davol was at 113). Plus he's got Kelly, Mass. #2 Reynosa, Delgallo of Maine and Fitzpatrick of Timberlane on his side of the brackets. Still, Davol has had good out of state competition and success, as has Cardosa, so there's a good chance for one of them placing, but not likely finalists.
113- Several of the MassWrestling prognosticators have Altieri winning, and he may be due as a 3x RI champ and 2x N.E. placewinner, He's on the opposite side of Devon of Lowell who beat him 1-0 at the Lowell tourney, and he has Gassaway of Mt. Anthony and Zogby of Franklin (who beat Davol at 113 8-0) to get by. And Beaudette with comparable experience and success against NE competition is a definite threat to place.
120- A really loaded weightclass even though the defending NE champ is missing (Crisco of CT transferred to Wyoming Seminary), since there's 2x Eastern States champ Kevin Jack of Danbury (NE runner-up last year) who actually beat Colicci at 126 in a dual this year. Brian Amato of Conn. is almost as good, and there's Derosa of Mass., Corey of Timberlane, Ryan of Mass., etc. It's good that D'Alosio and Kordby have a chance to get some tough experience and come back next year.
126- Pretty good position for Colicci, since 2x NE runner-up Monserrat (the only two h.s. matches he's lost!) is in the opposite bracket, and NH #1 Lemieux has scratched. He still has to get by Peters of Timberlane and then Lacroix of Mass. who he's already beaten, then try to make Monserrat a 3x runner-up.
132- Another defending champ missing as Waterman of Maine was injured before states and won't compete. May not matter since Miguel Calixto who was a 3x Conn. champ and 2x NE placewinner is even BETTER now that he's at Mt. Anthony Union. I don't honestly think anyone else matters in this weightclass, even Sughrue.
138- Hard to tell how well Serge will do, since while he has the ability and experience he's faced little competition this year as an independent. Still, I don't see anyone unbeatable here. He's got Conn. champ Luth in his bracket and probably Delgallo of Maine in the semis.
145- There have been several brothers who have been NE champs at the same time just in the past ten years, but never any that did it two years in a row. Yes, the Labries have to do it this year to be able to do it twice, but let's see. . . Christian has beaten Mass. #1 Ryan at Lowell 4-0, who has Mitchell of Conn. in his bracket. C. Labrie still has to get by Mcquaide of Chelmsford and Powers of Maine on his side, but he's been ranked No. 1 in NE most of the season with good reason.
152- Another defending champ missing as Niven was hurt in a car accident before Division 1 Mass States, but Andrew had already beaten him, as well as Hoehn of North Andover to become the heir-apparent. There's still Viruet of Mass. and Odell and Muntz of Conn., and Travers of course. Good chance for RI champ and placewinner here in a still very loaded weightclass.
160- Mass. alone is loaded here (Viruet, Drover, Restivo-Lage, Golner, etc.) as well as Khanni of Conn. Schmeider has terrific experience against NE competition and both he and Ziobro are threats to place here.
170- And another NE champ out as Chorzepa of Conn. is out, but he had lost in State finals to Antler who is the presumptive No. 1. Gallagher has the winner of Antler and Restivo-Lage (lots of brother combos this year) if he makes the semis. Caparco might have a slightly easier path to semis against really tough Jensen of Maine.
182- The heavier the weightclass, the less likely the RI entrants will place. That's not me, that's NE wrestling history in this century. Zeramby has Mass. champ Conrad (who beat the only returning NE place-winner Neals of North Andover) and Denoncourt of Timberlane, tough guys but not unstoppable. The other bracket has Grim (CT), Price (VT) and Neals.
195- Triniade of Mass. is a huge favorite hear, so it's nice he's in the opposite bracket from Neff along with Marcoux-Schaefe of MAU. Plenty of tough guys on his side, but Carl's been dominant though untested this year since he missed Lowell. Could be interesting.
220- Both Zicus and George have been to NE's, both have good out of state success this year, and both are seniors in a weightclass without returning placewinners. Carpe diem.
285- This could have gone better, since Jonah has 2x NHSCA national champ Jesse Webb of MAU (won the frosh and soph heavyweight titles last two years) in the quarters, and he has to get by tough Kevin Beene of Mass. just to get there. But Aurelio has great cred as a 3x state champ and NHSCA All-American himself, and Webb despite all his success has yet to make the NE finals. Besides, he has another year to go, so let's support Jonah and hope for that rarest of rarities, a NE heavyweight champ from RI.

atlantaal - Great posting overall, except these two pieces: 132- Another defending champ missing as Waterman of Maine was injured before states and won't compete. May not matter since Miguel Calixto who was a 3x Conn. champ and 2x NE placewinner is even BETTER now that he's at Mt. Anthony Union. I don't honestly think anyone else matters in this weightclass, even Sughrue. This was a very ingnorant statement. I think EVERYONE at a 6 state tournament matters!!! Anything can happen, I don't like the negativity (whether it's NE wreslting history or you siting NE wrestling history)

Writing reviews is tough as it is. You have to be realistic and still get a positive message across. I think that he was correct with those ideas and they obviously held true. I love RI and it's wrestlers but I'm not gonna say well that kid should win cause he's a nice kid. If he can't hang with better wrestlers he can't, that's just the way it is.

Andrew was well deserving of OW. Incredible year.. Christian was in the mix and could have easily got it from his brother. The fact that he hasn't given up a single point all year!!!!!! (Is that true?). Phenomenal feat. At a real tough weight class. Congratulations EWG and the Labrie family on a tremendous season.

Congrats to all their coaches and their parents for doing such a good job with them. I am proud to say I know them! I also want to say congrats to every single RI kid that made it to New England's! As a state we were well represented, great job everyone!!!! Next season starts Monday.

Ok silly question. After New England's, do top 2 place finishers from each weight class move onto nationals? Or is the season officially over?

Season is over unless you want to go to frosh, soph, jr, or senior nationals in VA beach. State finishers are eligible

There is still lots of wrestling to do. There are several national events and MAWAs that Mayo Quanchi will be attending. This Thursday after practice we will be having our meeting to decide who will be going where. The 2014 season starts today.

Well i will say one thing about exciting matches, and that is about my sons two matches that he won....Anyone who knows me will tell ya that i'll say it like it is no matter what. I've always said that watching Aaron wrestle can be really boring at times...But boy o boy did he bring it to the Mass 2 dude and the NH 3 kid...After losing and getting mutilated in his first match by the mass 5 he turns around and beats the mass 2 with 20 seconds to go and behind by three points he ties it up and wins in overtime!!!!! Than the next day in his first match he was behind by 1 (2-1) or (3-2) with 2 seconds to go and scored a reversal to win that match!!!Now that was 2 great wins and what we learned from that is that wrestling is 6 minutes NOT 5 minutes and 59 seconds!!!!NEVER GIVE UP!!!EVER!!!!I'm very proud of you Aaron...You win and lose like a true winner and thats whats most important...And btw after all your losses running on the highway back home isnt all that bad is it? lol...

Congrats to Labrie on OW. Outstanding season. I'd like to think that Jack was 2nd in the voting. Ripped through a stacked weight class!!
