To all the kids who wrestled their last high school match…
I want you to reflect on your last time that you wrestled…The last match…the last second…If you left that match with a dry and empty feeling I want to share something with you…
Proverb 23:7 “so as a man thinketh in his heart, so he is…He is not the man his mouth speaks or declares him to be, but what his heart thinks…
That empty and dry feeling is due to the fact that your thinking is tricking you into believing that you aren’t ever going to capture those euphoric wrestling moments that you had experienced in your career ever again… This is the big lie…The life ahead of you has many euphoric moments waiting for you…You just need the right perception!!!
All you wrestlers who take the lessons learned, from your wrestling career will, be able to reflect on those for the rest of your whole lives ahead!!! Without ever being an athlete in the sport you would have never been able to carry this along with you…This is a great accomplishment in and of itself…What I’m talking about is not your record of wins and losses but more importantly the experiences of the everyday life of a wrestler.!!!
I would encourage you to reflect on those times that you had leading up to certain key matches that you wrestled…reflect on the practices that you had to endure to get to certain weights or other goals that you were focusing on…Reflect on maybe what happened that particular week in school or maybe what didn’t happen…Reflect on what your coaches were teaching and what your parents were concerned with…Reflect on your attitudes of your wins or your losses…
Put everything in check and if you look at it in the end as the “glass being half full instead of half empty” than I guarantee that feeling of dry and emptiness will dissipate into the air…
It is very important how a man perceives his life. You all are young and you can’t always be in control of circumstances BUT you can be in control of how you choose your next move which many times is just a test to see what lesson you might need to be taught.
Become hard at work in seeing life as an optimist especially in these times we live in…
May Gods blessing be upon all of you..
Sincerely, Greg Travers
