dominatethemat You did your homework here. I guess Seymour Butts didn't make the cut though. Who are your top team favorites going into the season?

But he is still just barely outside of this list.

There seems to be a little favoritism with the lower weights in these rankings. The weight classes with the most competition in them is from 100 - 140 (8th graders). The top 5 here don’t weigh over 90lbs.

Very easy to use technique and moves on first year wrestlers. The true test is using it on stronger more experienced wrestlers. These kids are all excellent wrestlers but very rarely tested for 3 periods.

Where are all the experienced wrestlers under 90 pounds? I guess we’ll have to wait and see these wrestlers wrestle in three years when they are wrestling “experienced wrestlers“. I’ll get the popcorn ready

Yeah, all of the "lighter" kids above are legit. I see NHSCA All-Americans, New England Champs & finalists. They are perennial USAW State Champs. Ive personally seen them all pushed to the 3rd period many times, mostly out of state in places like IA, PA, NJ, FL, OK, CT, etc. Newton, Cole, Barry haven't been scored on in Rhode Island MS competition to date. And the only ones to score on Floody, Armstrong, and Colardo are each other. Chloe is a Girls National Champ, and thriving at 126 this year. dominatethemat is on the P4P money in my opinion.

It’s wild that athletes in CT, NY, and ME are respectfully ASKING to drill and practice with this crew…. Knowing they will face them in the next tournament. Meanwhile…. some RI coaches teach their kids to avoid the top tier and build resentment, separating the talent pool and ostracizing many kids that could be developed. Maybe the RI HS boards should read this too.

There is no doubt these kids are legit and great wrestlers. It is very difficult to rank with little to no competition week to week. The reality that they need to go out of state to wrestle a full match is my point. That is not practical in most states or at any state High school level. Even in RI they will have 4-5 kids every year that can be special athletes, crazy strength or just technically an all around good wrestler that will challenge them to go the full match. Agin they’re all great wrestlers. I actually think after what I saw Cloe do at Birchwood was pretty special. At the 126lb weight class she outwrestled some very solid and strong boys. Cole was very impressive dominating at 106. Nickerson is a freak athlete who will probably end up being a multi state and NE champion. All these kids are legit but if you want anyone to take the rankings seriously you need to take some of the heavier kids and mix them in while thinking about big picture competition, technique, mental toughness, tested in class, athleticism, …… it is not easy. Maybe 2 lists? Light and heavier weight.

There are some top heavy guys like Gian Richardson, Jackson Pommerer, and Josiah Lopez. But if we really look at it Pound Four Pound do you think guys like Gian would out wrestle Joseph Colardo. Of Jackson Nickerson would beat Logan Barry if they were the same weight.
