Saturday/ Sunday was bad for wrestlers and coaches. Friday/Saturday allows kids to enjoy their achievements and celebrate with family and friends after the tournament, maybe go to dinner. Instead everyone had school/work the next morning and some had school work to complete. It also affected the size of the crowd, many old timers attend the state finals annually, much more likely to pop in on a Saturday night rather than a Sunday. Wrestlers/Coaches also benefit from the sunday off to get back to work on Monday to prep for New Englands. Not to mention RIC hosting the D3 regionals the same days, many would have enjoyed attending that on Sunday. Bad move by RIIL

What a great tournament, I would agree that Friday and Saturday works better than Saturday and Sunday; finished late for a school night. However, every match was a nail biter! 120 and 126 was ridiculous, never a dull moment.

They need younger Referees

They need younger Referees I agree, smiths lost his touch the rest of them are just too old now. The only ones really staying consistent are Everett, Mooney, and Gravina.

Great State tourney!! Congratulations to Cumberland and all State Champs!! Now onto New England’s. Who do people predict will take home a NE title? I feel RI has a very good chance to bring home a NE championship at many weights. 120-Fry 126-Fallon 132-Clarke 145-Merritt 152-Faria 160-Fine 182-Grifka

Faria Fine and Grifka all should be contenders in the finals

Gilis and/or Myers should be top six, with Diaz, Dias, and Joyce all competing one of them is bound to place they all have the potential to do so. And one final I’m looking forward too is Malsanek vs Licastri at 195

The New England Committee really needs to look into changing the way they seed this tourney. I read an opinion on another board where they should simply seed all the State Champs 1-6 then let all other wrestlers fall into place according to the predetermined bracket they already use. This seems like an easy fix to the issues they are currently running into with potential championship caliber matches taking place in the earlier rounds. As far as the refs at States I say that we need to be thankful that they are committed to the sport to be out there doing it but I saw many times where refs either couldn’t or just didn’t want to get down on the mat for a potential pin. If you can’t get down on the mat you shouldn’t be out there in my opinion.

LOL no mention of Cumberland. With 7 Wrestlers heading to New Englands. And the Seeding is pretty awful!!!! Something should be done about it. The Fact that Fallon faces Leete in the Quarters is robbing one of those kids. Same at 120, 113 and several other brackets where the best kids are all paired on one side of the bracket.

However, they should atleast do a little research on the champions. The fact that two New England champs are facing each other in the semis at 120 is kinda unfair, and a New England finals match last year is the quarters is ever worse

There’s no reason they can’t seed the State Champs.

There should be an age limit for the refs these dudes can’t move or see. Also, why are people affiliated with wrestling clubs allowed to ref ?

I would not say age limits but i would say fitness limits - there is one that needs to walk away and hang up his whistle. It is hard enough to get refs ... eliminating those associated with clubs would make it even more difficult. We need to support the refs we have and not crucify them — we cant aford to lose any more.

Licastri is going to have a tough match with the Mt. Anthony kid. Thats a good point. Wilkins can beat LiCastri. Definitely going to be LiCastri vs Malsanek @195 finals. Sam Wilkins is a stud but him or McLaughlin from MA are not beating Carson to get to the finals. IMO.
