From my point of view there should be 50 or 70 kids heading down here, LOL. It will be what it is, there is lots more wrestling to come in 2012, no worries.

Hey it's a free country and everyone makes decisions based on what's best for their kid or, for coaches, their club. It's just a shame the best in New England couldn't all be under one roof for one tournament.
The good news for RI; they should dominate Coventry...

I'll say it again - we need new "leadership" in RI. Our kids should be wrestling in NH. Do you really think the kids care if this is a USA sanctioned event. As to the whining above - I had always heard that MA hated RI wrestlers - thanks for the confirmation. C'mon, man! The true New England's are always very well run. Let's face it, our "leaders" couldn't bully the other states so they ran away rather than trying to find a solution.

I think it is time for everyone to agree to disagree and work hard to make it a true New Englands next year for the wrestlers sake.

Next year if they try to pull the same thing I'm pretty sure everyone will be headed north. I bet Danbury is really regretting deciding on Coventry. They are really the only major CT club. Most KT and NE Elite are headed North.

Just looked at the numbers for Coventry. Out of 43 weight classes only 17 have at least 8 kids. 12 have 4 or fewer!

Once again the children are in the middle. At the youth level they have no say. The parents will make the decision or the club. BUT as adults nothing needed to be said besides "Good luck to your wrestler, no matter where she/he goes.
Hopefully this can be resolved for next year. To late now to point the blame, probably enough to go around. Good luck to all the New England wrestlers this weekend. No matter which mat you step on, give it your all....

If this tournament didnt mean so much to my son I would have withdrew. The USA New Englands are a joke. The Brackets are 8 man at most and those have alternates all over them. Why Mike Stuer and Rico couldnt come to a mutual agreement is between them and Im not sure anyone besides them knows why either.
Can someone please explain to me why a stae would not be a USA wrestling state? I dont fully understand. ISnt USA wrestling the only governing body of any upper level wrestling. they are the only ones providing for our Olympic wrestlers. If I am wrong please help to understand. This is not written with any condisending tone. Im trying too understand why everyone in the wrestling community wouldnt jump on board with USA? I mean asking for a membership of 35$ and a BCI isnt out of the ordinary, every sport ask for BCI.
Im pretty disappointed that the kids this year have watered down tournys. (Yes both of them are watered down.) I always looked forward to this tournament. I hope that next year this is all ironed out. For everyone wrestling good luck and good health.

usa is a large body of wrestling but it is not the only body, mawa or mid atlantic is not usa, the is also aau, new york has one of it's own, there are alot of other wrestling org, big red , big trophy, marshwoods are also large non usa tournaments, it's just a matter of choice, the fact that the new englands was not usa should not of been a reason not to wrestle, I also believe that the tournament could of become a usa tournament if everyone tried to fix the problem, usa is the largest wrestling org, and yes it would be nice if every state went that way, but that is not going to happen, lets just hope this gets worked out for nextyear, and really is sad that this happened, I really feel bad mostly for the 8th graders who are moving onto high school and this was teir last year for this tournament, really all the wrestlers lost out very disappointing for the kids, , lets make sure this never happens again

word through the rumor mill was at this afternoon's middle school weigh-ins in Nashua, a few wrestlers jumped ship and came up asking to be added into the Nashua tournament for tomorrow, once they got a look at how small the brackets were in RI. So expect some of the brackets to be even smaller tomorrow.

Word thru my rumor mill is they could not make weight and needed the extra couple of lbs to wrestle, but I am glad they are getting to wrestle around their weight brackets. Good Luck!!
